Our Kitchen Garden

We have just redesigned our veggie garden to make it easier to plant & pick our vegetables. All the bricks we used had been thrown out in a builder's skip. There are more photos of our garden on the Hills & Plains Seedsaver's blog. We live on the Adelaide plains so we have a milder climate than some of the folks who live in the hills. We specifically grow vegetables & herbs that we can use in all sorts of international recipes. This includes soups, salsas, fresh Indian chutneys, stir fries, Korean pickles, pestos, African & Mexican bean dishes, Indian dhals, Mediterranean casseroles, vegetable pies & muffins.
Our dogs eat a raw food diet & love pureed vegetables.
Our vegetable garden is truly international in flavour.
I hope you enjoy you garden as much as we do.

Thank you for the welcome Maggie :)

I have some sage, oregano, cat mint, bee balm, chives, garlic chives, basil, a couple lemon verbana (love those), three different rosemarys, 6 different mints, four different thymes, a couple jasmines (houseplants here), allspice (houseplant), thai ginger (houseplant) and of course my roses - 7 different rugosa roses - my absolute favorites, the rosehips are almost ready

İn regards to pickling chillies it is very easy and the results are great-the Turks mainly pickle green chillies of all sorts of shapes and sizes-i dont have exact measurements but this is what İ do-for 2 kilos of chillies İ would put in about 1 tbs of citric acid and about 4 tbs salt plus the juice of one lemon-taste this as it has to be salty enough if not just add another tbs-you can cut up the used lemon and add to the chillies. Depending on the weather depends on how long it will take to be ready usually a couple of weeks but İ made some small gerkins and they were well and truly ready in a week.

Hi Maggie Northey Street is great they are very active and very informative İ have done a couple of courses there and it was a great experience. When people do the olives here well there are several methods but in regards to the mould just rinse off the olives and replace the water-when the olives are not bitter tasting they then add them to a brine solution. İ have had a couple of gardens since being here but am now stuck in an apartment which is very hard. İ was living in İstanbul and my neighbours all made plots out of some unused space next to the builing they all did great jobs and it was amazing to see how much such a desolate area could produce.

Hi Maggie,
are you growing runner beans? I thought I had read that yrou were.

A friend on Gardeners Calendar UK wants to know whether beans twine clockwise or anti clockwise in the southern hemisphere. I'm sure the answer will be clockwise but I said I'd check with you.
