Sunwarm

My frosted tomatoes are regrowing...

Should I keep them, or replace them? They were quite beautiful, in the ground for about 2 weeks before we had a serious cold night (around 25 F). Now some are regrowing leaves in the joints where suckers come out.
On the one hand, it's usually not a great idea to start with a stressed plant. On the other, they had great root systems and are varieties I really like. Does anyone else have experience with this dilemma?

I'm in a similar situation, and will be happy to hear others' advice. I put my seedlings out too early. They didn't get any frost, but were definitely stressed, leaves yellowing (I think from sunburn) and some purpling ( I think from cold soil and being unable to take up enough phosphorous). I can tell you that I gave them some kelp fertilizer about a week ago, and the new growth is looking green and stronger, so maybe that would help your frostbitten plants as well? However, I do wonder what the tough start will do to the amount of fruit I ultimately get from the plants.

It can be a problem if you have a short growing season! They will probably recover but that is not always ideal. I grow from seed and keep the seedlings under cover but they are growing. I have a routine of pruning some leaves and potting-on to develop stronger roots.

When they go into the soil the threat of frost is 'over' but they will be protected with plastic sleeves. These sleeves protect the plants from the wind and also any late frosts that are not too severe.

We have a lot of self sown tomato plants that do get affected by frost, they 'kick-on' but are often too late to fruit properly.

Nothing very scientific but it is what happens here!
