Thanks for promoting it.
The idea is an extension of the kitchen gardeners bluegrass that I started last year and then fizzled.
Part of the reason was the time and place, but more importantly was a lack of experience, time and money on my part in advertising the events. The meeting on seed saving actually made it in the local paper and ONE person came who had read the announcement!
Brook will be the first to confirm the necessity of good PR.
At the expense of sounding like a whinging pom (yes In fact I am a p------- b------) PR is a full time job. If anyone has some tried and trusted methods for getting the word out that take little or no money, bare minimum of time and minimal hassle, I and I'm sure others would love to hear it. For example I put flyers for kgb meetings up at Fayette seed (a local well known gardening shop) and though they all disappeared I never heard a peep. I know people who shop there probably know most, but still its quite disappointing to spend time designing a flyer that passed the Roberta test*, printing it and having no response.

John, have you decided what y'all will be doing for pot luck.

I'm gonna do a North African style tomato & cucumber salad. I figure I'll actually make it there, because there's not telling how many folks will show up.

I think this is a great forum to let others know about Kitchen garden, school garden, community garden, local market produce, seedsaving , herb and spice groups or rare fruit society activities.
Even if we live miles away, there might be a time we visit that area or follow the activities progress via blogs.
We do not travel much but if we do I always search the web for community gardens or markets in that area.
It is great to see what people are growing and usually there is someone tending their plot who will love to chat about their gardening experiences.
I love looking at all the photos of your gardens that you have added.

Just a little kicker to remind folks that the next meeting of the Edible Gardening Club will be at The Arboretum, May 21 (this coming Wednesday), at 6:30 PM.

The topic is heirloom veggies. Roger Postley and I will be discussion leaders. Afterwards we'll go out and play in the dirt, planing heirloom veggies in either the demonstration plot or the new kid's garden.

Hope all y'all can make it. And, if you do, don't forget a pass-along dish for the pot luck.

John and Brook,

Have you tried www.meetup.com? I know our area has a very large permaculture group that communicates via that space and meets in person. There are dining out groups, film groups, foreign language groups, etc. I guess it's like the cyber version of the old salons that utne reader started. You register your group on the site and people who are surfing for things to do in their areas of interest can find you by geographic area and key words.

If you do meetup, please let us know if it reaps new members and a breath of life for your group!
