Kate, If you haven't found anyone yet to talk seed saving on the Veggie Hour, you might try contacting the people at the Southern Seed Legacy project at UGA. Their semester will be over soon, so you would need to contact them Soon to make sure of catching them before January, but the project is worth talking about! Just a thought. Kate,

Thanks for commenting back. If you get desperate for a guest on your show, I could probably manage to fill in. I gave a talk in April at Smith-Gilbert Garden in Kennesaw about getting started with vegetable gardening (filling in for the original speaker, who had to cancel), and it went pretty well. The question/answer time stretched the talk out to two hours. It turns out that I have a surprising amount of garden trivia tucked in my brain.

If you'd like to check my blog, just to make sure I'm okay, it is

Kate, Ignore my previous comment! I didn't realize until this morning that you write Kate's Garden Journal blog (that I have linked on my blog!). I found the link to Sandy Springs radio on your front page.

Hi Kate. Welcome to KGI. I see you're settling in, joining groups. This is a really great place for gardeners to gather. The best way to meet folks and make friends is to jump in and start leaving comments -- on photos, on forum discussions, on blogs, and on people's pages. There will always be a comment box on those pages to use.

I'm sure you're not as rotten a gardener as you suppose. There are a lot of challenges to working in a garden that take from our time and energy, and even our interest occassionally. I should know. As anxious as I was for this planting season, I'm way behind getting things in the ground!

Anyway, welcome! Make friends! And best gardening wishes! mwf

Hi Kate Copsey, welcome to KGI. I'm sure you'll find the site interesting, we're a pretty friendly bunch. You'll find all manner of discussions in the forum (follow the link in the top navigation bar) and there is also a notes section where I can put stuff that may be of interest to members. At the moment there are one or two "how to" articles and a whole range of recipes. (follow the notes link)
If there is anything I can do then please, just leave a message on my page.

Wow Sandra! You've asked for an awful lot of information! Start by checking for your "predicted" last frost date. There are frost charts online, but the quickest way for you, I think, is to call your county extension agent. He'll be listed in the ph…

Had no luck with gem squash last year - it was just too hot! So I didn't try this year. Maybe next summer.

Yes it's hot but very humid which is unusual. We are having a spell of days in the low 30s but tropical air is being pushed south by the weather systems up north and we are getting rain and humidity. The rain we love - the humidity we are not used t…

HOW TO - ADD A LINK

Several people have experienced difficulty putting working links into comments and blogs etc and I know it is clumsy.... so here is how you do it.....

First type the text you want to appear....  ie  IAN'S PAGE

Then go back and highlight the link text.

Then hit the hyperlink button...a pictogram of a chain link.

Your browser may intervene and request permission to allow temporary scripting or some similar message.   Allow it and go back and highlight the text again

Forum Policy

Hi, I'm starting to put together a few guidlines on using the discussion forum on here.

I would be happy to hear any comments you may have.  This is very much a work in progress so plese feel free to ask me to add anything you think is needed.

I don't want to make our community hide bound by rules and regulations but I think that, as the community has grown, some explanation of what is expected is needed.
