Hi Amna, my little self-sufficiency farm is not comparable to yours, but I've visited a lot of large farms in Germany and I don't know anyone, as well led as yours. I can't even imagine how it is possible to apply perfect cultivation, care and storage to so many different plants and animals and find time for beautiful flower compositions. You are telling us of beginning spring, bees, awaking nature - I'm really zealous! But no, in summer you have to fight against aridness! You irrigate your fields, do you have problems with oversalting? Or do you get deluged new clay? Lydia
Amna I used to live in Konya and am now living in Gaziantep, but I would be honoured to have you as a guest where ever I am living. I went to the Mevlana tombs a few times and they are very interesting. Are you talking about Mevlana himself or the Pasa Aladdin. Mevlana has several volumes of writings and has some interesting points of view.
Thankyou Amna
I still like the ape though. He lives in Jersey Zoo which i visited a few years ago. This zoo was started by Gerald Durrell for the conservation of endangered species, which i think goes hand in hand with what this website is trying to achieve.
Thanks again for your comment.
Have a Happy New Year.

Hi amna,
How are you doing today?
I am getting seed catologs for spring planting in march!
One of my catologs has a insecticide called BioNeem made from extract of the seeds of the Neem tree.
Have you used this type of insecticide?
Thank You for your time.
thanks Amna for sharing your photos of your farm. Your plants look so healthy and it is amazing the plants you are producing, when I see how dry it is around you. You are truly innovative. What the world needs is more farmers like you!
I was interested to hear you talk about having fish as well - I once went to a talk where they showed how they used the fertile water from the fish to flow through and feed the vegetable patch. very interesting.
I think I might try your green mango chutney recipe this weekend.
I looked at a few sites one included a funny television program, yes it is very similar I will try your version, the Turks dont eat chutneys but I occasionally make some.
Thanks for checking out my garden project. It is nice to know people look! We are building spaces for 50 families now,, and have another spot approved that will hold 80 to 100 family plots...
Thanks for the welcome, Amna. A few photos of my garden "friends" have been added with your welcoming comment in mind. It is quite small compared to some, but very prolific. My best to you.
Hi Amna,
I very much liked your comment to Glenn on his sweet potatoes. Like you, I felt a lot of pressure to have the highest level of success with my first garden in many years, and was dissappointed with some of the outcomes. Still, I was thrilled that anything grew at all. Your garden is enormous! I looked up your location on Google Earth and I see that you live in the most fertile area on the continent. It looks lovely.
Salam Amna!
Do you have canal system for irrigation? Which river feed those canals?
Here in Chak Shahzad, irrigation is by wells, bores and for wheat and corn we have to depend upon rains.
For the pasts few years under ground water has gone drastically down due to insufficient rains. We have to conserve water and avoid wasting.
Due you have plentiful supply of water.
I heard that canal irrigated areas are also facing shortage of water because of less rain and dams been build across border which is hampering free flow.
I think we are already experiencing impact of global warming.
Do you agree?
With this amount of rain I think we would have to switch over to drip and sprinkler irrigation much sooner.
The Crow is the most intelligent of all birds. I have seen crows hiding their goodies in crevices and softening dry breadcrumbs by dipping in water. They would also open nuts by purposely placing it in the road so cars will break it open.
Crow are serious nuisance here as well. You can install a scarecrow. If that does not work, try to shoo them off with gunshots or slingshots, Crows are afraid of owls and hawks. Put a fake owl or hawk with big scary eyes out in the open where a crow can see and they will fly helter-skelter at the sight of it.
As a last resort Simply shoot one crow, hang the dead crow from a branch that would scare away the crows in no time.
We usual use slingshot.
What is the habitat of kingfisher? At what time of year do they start breeding and where they make nest. Are little ones like chicks with down feathers?
Hi Everett
I found this article on Mycorrhizal Fungii which i think is quite interesting. I am sure the production of this stuff is one of the benefits of the "hugelkultur pile" that you describe.
I know on the TV gardening programmes they advocate…

Wow Sandra! You've asked for an awful lot of information! Start by checking for your "predicted" last frost date.
There are frost charts online, but the quickest way for you, I think, is to call your county extension agent. He'll be listed in the ph…

Yes it's hot but very humid which is unusual. We are having a spell of days in the low 30s but tropical air is being pushed south by the weather systems up north and we are getting rain and humidity. The rain we love - the humidity we are not used t…
