Hello you! I didn't notice your request, I didn't receive any notice in my mailbox from the page. Probably because I wasn't active for a time. I'm very busy to restore my farm house and all farm buildings at once, I painted the walls of the cows stable today, they want to go home in a few days. Wish you a fine weekend and a not too strong winter. Lydia
I just read a message from David about Puff Daddy. Puff is working out well, human friendly, gets along well with the other Roo's, but has David's dogs imtimidated.
Hi Chelle! Did you hear? One of Diana's chickens has laid her first eggs!
Her chickens are about 18 weeks old, so maybe you and I will be getting eggs soon! I hope so, cause I'm ready! The cost of eggs in the store has dropped, and that's good, but I'm really ready for my own eggs.
RE: Grub worms in the mulch discussion.
Chelle, thank you for your your kind words about my 'knowledge'. I know enough, but I've learned much more from John. He's the one who knows so much. I always ask for his input on the tougher KGI discussions, and he usually has an immediate understanding of what to do. I always do research on the internet to back up what I post, and John always checks facts too when he's advising me. In a web community like this it's really easy for some folks to dominate. I love participating in the discussions, but I try to share info without sounding like a know-it-all (because I certainly don't know it all). And I really learn a lot by researching a topic when a new discussion opens. It's a blast how much I'm learning on this site!! Again, thank you.
Yes, I have been home winemaking for about 4 years or so now. I would love to help you guys get started. It is actually pretty easy...espescially my semi-slacker way! I started out with all the goodies, and sulphites and everything, and then graduated to just good old soap and hot water--which gives a much better flavor to the wine. I have made many different kinds, but I mostly use fruit or flowers. I made a lot of dandilion last year and some rose petal, and concord grape. I have also made a rosehip (yum), peach (really yum), nasturtium (weird), and some others, some that didn't work out as well due to a learning curve. It's espescially good if you forget about it for a year, then remember it and drink it. :) Let's do it!
Hi Chelle. I really like all your photos, especially those with your daughter helping out. It's always nice to have family pitching in on projects. Although, actually... sometimes it isn't, when I think about my family! lol! I really like your chicken coop too. That's very similar to what I want John to build as a winter home for our chickens, only larger because we have 25 chickens. He and I don't often see things the same when new projects come around, so we'll see what we end up with! Have a beautiful day!
It's from this month's KGI book of the month club--Eugenia Bone's Well Preserved. It's an amazing book--not much quantity, but incredible quality!
There is a balsamic recipe in the Ball home canning recipe book (not the blue book, the other--though it might be in the blue book as well).
I'm dreaming about cherries next...I love them but they are SO expensive in the store. I guess I'd need a cherry stoner too, if I am really going to do it.
Awesome! I canned for the first time this weekend too--strawberries of course. I got 7 cups of strawberry jam, 2 pints of strawberry-balssamic, and a pint of strawberry balsamic syrup. I will blog soon, when work lets up a bit!
I really don't WANT to spin yarn so if you want fleece, that's great. I'm not planning on spinning any, anytime soon. (ya, I just changed my mind, I really don't like doing it for money it's way, way too hard to get what your time is worth).
I can sell yarn but don't expect it for awhile. :) as to price I've never really figured that out. I would probably sell it for about 12 an ounce (procesed and spun).
Alpaca fiber? yes I can sell it, but here's the thing. The boxes that you have to put these fleeces in are SO big that the shipping is more expensive than the fiber. So what I'm suggesting is that if you want some, send me one of those vacuum seal bags. I'll pack it up, vacuum it up, and ship it to you. I'm selling it for $1o a lb, raw, plus the shipping charges of course. We will have new stuff after 6/8. I have some other stuff but would have to check my inventory to see what the colors are.
You are welcome! I am trying to learn all I can about medicinal uses of plants around us. I loathe have to resort to a pill bottle when I have an ache!
They strangle everything...they also have the weird ability to mimic other plants...like parsely...seedlings look the same, then before you know it BUTTERCUP!! At least they don't have thorns!
I tried to add a reply to two posts and got an "error on page" note !! But then it asked me to sign in again !! Would that be the reason my posts did not work ?? Sign in was negated ?? Or is it common to have to do this occassionally ??
Wow Sandra! You've asked for an awful lot of information! Start by checking for your "predicted" last frost date.
There are frost charts online, but the quickest way for you, I think, is to call your county extension agent. He'll be listed in the ph…
Hmmm... we are having lots of sacred snow these days in Baltimore... can't wait for some of it to melt down...
can't wait for spring to get my fingers back in the soil...
Oh gosh, that is rare to get humidity that far south! That is where all our moisture went - we havnt had any rain for over a week :) I started that gemsquash group as I discovered a new member (Margaret Flett) who had gemsquash as her favourite vege…
Yes it's hot but very humid which is unusual. We are having a spell of days in the low 30s but tropical air is being pushed south by the weather systems up north and we are getting rain and humidity. The rain we love - the humidity we are not used t…
yes - the pods are quite tough. We only ate the peas inside and we always ate them green although many Indian people dry them. They are known as toovar dhal in Gujerati or tuvaram in Tamil and there are lots of recipes for them dried. Just google to…
Mary,
so you always shell them? I am entirely in the dark with these, and no more flowers :(... Did you only cook the peas fresh or did you leave some to dry?
I posted a photo of the HUGE luffa I found, and there are lots more making an appearance -…
