In regards to the catus, Everett is correct it dosnt like being overwatered. There are ones that flower early and some later.
I just read your comment about luffas Salma, I think they are great. I used to grow them and sell them at local markets and put them into soaps that I had made. In Turkey they use them in the villages mostly for washing dishes. I have also seen them used for stuffing matresses. I think they are a very good green solution for many purposes. I am still using a couple I grew in Australia 5 years later.
Hello again Salma, Your favorite food "Mughal" is that a paticular kind of
food or a cuisine? When I look it up I only get references for a famous Indian
restaraunt in Maryland and references to the Mughal Empire.
Oh yes, canabis the nuisance plant, the United States government thinks
it's a nuisance too, they spent untold millions flying around trying to find
it and kill it before someone else finds it and smokes it.
Hello Salma, Kathryn is right it's a zygocatus, My wife Nancy puts it out on the front porch in spring and leaves it there watering occasionally. The porch faces
east so it doesn't get the hot son from about 11AM on. In October when
she sees the first buds appear she brings it in and puts it in a sunny window.
Don't water while it's flowering or they'll fall off. Nan says it thrives on neglect.
We have had some that didn't flower untill December, I'm not sure why this
one flowers now. Maybe it's the particular kind it is.
Thanx Saba! Just feel your soil, its aroma will tell you what it can do for you.We are very rich we can grow the year round.I some times laugh when I see people standing in the rows to get "atta".Its a mockery.
Salam! King fisher lives here in the old ber tree in a tunnel shaped nest. They feed from the fountain in my back yard. This fountain pond also have a pair of turtles.Mosquito larva is eaten by these two and my pond remains safe from many unwanted organisms.I discovered their chicks when they are killed by crows two months ago.Yes I will kill one of these crows it is the only solution.
Water scarcity is a major problem it dates back to the day when Ferozpur was not given to us and culminated when in 1960 the water treaty was signed.I cant say anything why it was done/I am a mere Lilliput and these political Gullivers better know what they were doing and has done so far. Any way we are trying what we can on our scale.Canals are not fed by any particular river ,I think they are canalized by different heads and barrages .Ours is khader in pakpatten and suhagpara in malkahans. Two rivers used to flow near us in old days Sutluj in pakpattan and Biyas in malkahans.Even the name pakpattan is a reminder of old word patten showing the river was here.
Tube wells have failed due to water level decree.Water is as low as 200 feet at some places. So turbines are installed gradually.Water is wasted every year as floods and it goes to the sea.The need of time is water conservation but......These are the points where one feels frustrated. We are thinking about water management .We use lazer levelers to level our land to save water. My brother used polythene sheets in the the small channels of water to prevent absorption and evaporation. Now we are planing to make small dames of one marla for five acres to reserve rain water .We will use them as fish farms to reduce the loss. But can an ant fight with the elephant? Our lands are so fertile that if I was only given okara and sahiwal districts I can feed whole Asia.
It will in nov also.N0w a days crows have become a menace for me .They have uprooted the peas garlic and gladiola. I will kill one of them with my air gun as they are also killing kingfisher's chicks and destroying eggs of other birds who live here.Do you know any other solution? As i don't believe in violence.
Salam! Malka Hans is adjacent to my farm .Its a small town with the historic mosque where Waris shah wrote Heer. I use to sit in my office at our farm and write my novels wishing they will get the influence too lol.
Hi Saba
I went to a flower show earlier this year in Harrogate England, where they had some flower arrangements. This was my favourite beacause of the use of the old tools.
Salam! yes its a long long time ago but the place was beautiful even than.My novel is not available in Islamabad. But I am going to publish it on net soon. You can read one of my recent stories on net in Khwateen digest sptember issue. at pak digest.com .Its a scanned version, but a person with a good eyesight can read it lol.
As for Bhung, oh you dont know how people of drier areas envoy you. They say that it is the weed of darweesh and God has given it in abundance to Hazart Imam Barri.People love plants and relates them to their believes.
Hi Saba! Thanx for your appreciation. As said in Persian "mun anum keh mun danum".I think you don't have much time for reading and specially the so called "Adbi"readings .Otherwise you can read some of my short stories. One of my novels got the best book award for 2007by PEN.But what difference does it make any way ?Its nature, the bounty provided by God that compels you to create.I believe gardening is also like composing a poem.

Hi Saba i tried strawberries at a domestic scale. This year i have planned to cultivate them on a larger scale near the river. But due to war in Swat the nursery is not available .You are right ,due to perish ability, its a hard product.About your comment on female gardeners ,i want to tell you some thing interesting that is maybe already in your notice. In pakistan almost 70persent if the farm work is done by women ,they weed they plant they harvest, keep livestock.I mean they are a step ahead of the woman of the rest of the world.
yes - the pods are quite tough. We only ate the peas inside and we always ate them green although many Indian people dry them. They are known as toovar dhal in Gujerati or tuvaram in Tamil and there are lots of recipes for them dried. Just google to…
Mary,
so you always shell them? I am entirely in the dark with these, and no more flowers :(... Did you only cook the peas fresh or did you leave some to dry?

Hi i just wanted to ask, I know it is still cold and i want to know what i can grow in the garden that would be organic and as close to the original foods? How do i find seeds for these foods? When do i start growing? Can i start seed in the house?…
Hi Gillian
We used to grow Pigeon Peas in Natal (north coast) and cooked them with lots of tomato, onion, chilli = and garlic. They can make your hands really black when you peel them so wear gloves. They are worth it though as they are delicious.…

I have a nice sega palm. It grew a strang thing in the middle which I now understand is the way it makes seeds. So I have a female plant. I would like to use the seeds and grow more, but I don't have a male Sego Palm plant.
I suppose there is n…
We sampled the cucumbers I pickled just before Christmas and while the flavour was good the skins were tough. They are gherkins or pickling cucumbers. Should I have peeled them? I would be grateful for any advice.
