Use less if you want, you use more when cooking with meat. I tested that helva recipe the one you are familiar with. Unbelievably easy to make. If you want the recipe Ill post it.
Once I had a wonderful garden so productive then my landlord came and told me he had split up with his wife and he needed the house. I had 2 weeks to pack so I got alot of cardboard boxes and those polystyrene boxes and started packing up my garden. I planted all the veggies in the boxes and let them settle, at that time I had alot of comfrey tea so I gave them liberal dosings. I was praying the whole time my precious veggies wouldnt wilt and wouldnt go into shock. They did very well and 2 weeks later I took them to thier new home, left them in the boxes while I made up the garden beds, which were no dig then carefully transplanted some of the veggies into the beds. I had a 100percent survival rate. The tomatoes I left in the boxes as they had flowers and some small fruit, I didnt want to risk loosing my crop.....Sooooo if there is a will there is a way. Where are you moving to.
Hi Penelope, sorry about all those other posts. I dont know what happened except I could only post one line. I have also bought a new keyboard so it is now easier to read.....How did your sales go at Christmas and what was your biggest seller. Also what crop will you being growing the most of this coming season.
Hi Penelope, great to hear from you.
Looks like your long cold season has arrived, we are experiencing our first ever November heatwave here in South Australia, 39 degrees Celsius today and 41 tomorrow !!!!
We can not even get a cool day to plant all our seedlings out.
You know I copied your comment from my page into this comment box so I dont forget what you wrote then I delete it before I press the button. Sorry. LOL and I still forgot about the crab cakes........they sound great especially with the lime sauce.
How is your new place? Are you enjoying it? Any new recipes? My friend Jonathan made a curry last night, a bit too hot for me, but the flavor was good. I made crab cakes from canned crab which were pretty good with the lime flavored sauce.
Yes enjoying living here it is much warmer and the house in centrally heated. Last year this time we were freezing and walking through snow, the climate is much milder the food is more economical and more diverse as well. Love a good curry, he needs to make those milder creamier ones for you. I am making brocolli soup at the moment, as for new recipes I always have some. Will post one or two tomorrow. Getting back to pulses in the cold weather might make a lentil salad or pilav. pomegrantes are still in so enjoying them and have just processed a few kilos of olives for fun. Like your web site and will have to sign up for the updates. I had a potter for a friend who made custom designed funeral urns, she did quite well. Maybe your shrouds will be the same. Take care.
Hello how are you have thought of you. Has it snowed there yet and is your heating adequate. My question mark is not working sorry. Tell me what weaving you are doing lately.
Hi Penelope
I,ll bring an apple over. It will only take me a minute.
You said you had a frost at the beginning of October. We havn,t had one yet.
We,ve have had one of the best autumns in years. Cool but sunny mornings. My favourite time to be in the garden.
On grapevine pruning Penelope I meant to say I prune last seasons growth down to two nodes each when the vine is leafless or just as it's starting new growth - NOT the new growth coming on!
You know when we were kids we had a black cat but with a more innocent name. Vegemite - being American that probably wont hold any meaning for you. But Johnathons cats name, every culture can appreciate.
Hi Everett
I found this article on Mycorrhizal Fungii which i think is quite interesting. I am sure the production of this stuff is one of the benefits of the "hugelkultur pile" that you describe.
I know on the TV gardening programmes they advocate…
I tried to add a reply to two posts and got an "error on page" note !! But then it asked me to sign in again !! Would that be the reason my posts did not work ?? Sign in was negated ?? Or is it common to have to do this occassionally ??
Wow Sandra! You've asked for an awful lot of information! Start by checking for your "predicted" last frost date.
There are frost charts online, but the quickest way for you, I think, is to call your county extension agent. He'll be listed in the ph…
Hmmm... we are having lots of sacred snow these days in Baltimore... can't wait for some of it to melt down...
can't wait for spring to get my fingers back in the soil...
Oh gosh, that is rare to get humidity that far south! That is where all our moisture went - we havnt had any rain for over a week :) I started that gemsquash group as I discovered a new member (Margaret Flett) who had gemsquash as her favourite vege…
Yes it's hot but very humid which is unusual. We are having a spell of days in the low 30s but tropical air is being pushed south by the weather systems up north and we are getting rain and humidity. The rain we love - the humidity we are not used t…
