Well, the knee was doing well. It is a bit cranky with the wet weather and I have not been able to get out and exercise it.
My spuds, carrots and most root crops are doing well. I hilled the garden, so the rain ran off. I think that was a good idea. The worms left me some kale, so I am hoping to harvest some soon. It has just been such an erratic growing year for everyone! I am hoping for a good harvest if we can get caught up on sun and some warmer days!
I went out to weed after dinner, but the skeeters drove me in. They are going to be huge after all the pools of water ferment a new crop! i guess I have to be happy with having got the yard mowed before the next spate of rain comes!
Save me a watermelon!!!

Beva
Hey! I'm back!
I have been away from the computer and busy with house guests. Imagine my surprise when I saw the post from "Beva"!!!! This is so cool! I can't wait to chat with her and learn what her experience has been living with 'our' name!!! In my 50 some years, I have never met anyone with the same name! Except the woman that I was named after, and I really don't remember her.
Glad to hear your garden is doing well. We have had miserable weather here. It has rained every day since the 2nd of June. Yesterday was the first full day that we did not have any rain. My garden is so stunted from lack of sun. My peas are coming on, and I had to go pick many off that were starting to rot on the vine... and I did pick and freeze some. I am hopeful that we will get enough sun to catch things up. Of course I also need to weed... they grew just fine!!
:)
Beva from Maine (good thing I keep that fir tree, huh?)
Thank you for the tips Michelle, I was just floored when I ran across this website and saw that there was someone else with my name. Our name is so rare. :)
I have been gardening this time around in my life for about a year, I live near Austin, Texas and the heat here has been awful the last 2 weeks, 104 to 106, my garden is still doing well though, I am watering it every day, I have a 50x50 garden. I think I got luckier than most people around because I used aged horse manure in it and it just went bonkers with the growth. Everyone else's gardens are dead, mine is still good, I think another thing that has helped me is my garden does not get a full day of sun, I have 8 pecan trees and they partially shade it.
Thank you for posting to my page, Michelle, but I did use the photo button, and nothing showed up. I uploaded photos and nothing showed up. Is there a help section here that I can refer to?
Good mornin', Hot and dry here.We had a good shower last week (20 min or so). Plenty of "air you can wear'', being in Ga. you know what I mean.I'll harvest some corn friday.Maybe a mellon or 2 in a few weeks. My bee-balms are about 8 in tall now.hope they make it this winter.People say deer like them, so I guess I'll increase my venison intake this year.Tell Daddy I said howdy. He's probably like me, he doesnt like fishin...he likes catchin. I gotta go, my finger is tired. bye
Hello Michelle, just want to say sorry, because I did't reply to your mail, you see on my fotos, why. As soon as I'll have some time free, I'll do, it's so interesting.
By the way: in last months I had 5 American Wwoofers on my farm, they all were very nice, well educated young people. Seems that American parents are very well parenting. Without my wwoofers I couldn't do this work.
The weather here was cold and wet all the time, but no it turns to really hot and this means, that at least we can hay- Soon I will take photos of my garden, you'll see, how small my plants are, but now they are growing rapidly. I wish you and all others a very good and satisfying time. Lydia
Hello Michelle!! I am so sorry I have not been on here very often, we have just been really busy.
Thanks for checking out my blog! I really enjoy yours, too!
As for the book, unfortunately I have not had the chance to get it, but I certainly will have to. It sounds so very good. I am sure I would really enjoy it. Maybe I'll check the library.
Sounds like you are getting a whole lot from your garden!! Isn't it so exciting!! It's a tremendous feeling only gardeners can get, I reckon. It's just so much fun, too!
My hens aren't laying yet, but hopefully it won't be too long. I'm expecting them to start by August. (hopefully, anyway :)
......my ''office'' also has nice green ''carpet'', usually a shade of Carolina blue ceiling, the A/C is sorta off an on,the restroom is HUGE,...me and Bud like it.
Michelle, kinda dry here. Wishful thinking on my part, when I said I might have a mature mellon by the 4th. But soon I hope.I pulled my first ear of corn yesterday(just curious)...looked/tasted fine. Mom's been eating some squash from the ''garden''. Butternut. Where do I hang? Under the Dogwood trees at the edge of the woods.......my office. sad but true. have a good one.
Good Morning Michelle! Thanks for your comments on my photos. I just finished peeking at your latest photos...your garden is beautiful, and I was glad to see that your tomatoes have survived despite that wind storm. I have never seen watermelon growing..those baby watermelons are so cute!
As for my own garden, yes, I do feel proud of the results after working hard out there for the past 2+ months. However, you should see the inside of my house and the rest of my yard! A disaster. While working full time,it seems one must choose either to work in the garden, the house, or the rest of the yard. The rock wall behind my garden was clean of weeds when I started the raised beds in April, but now they are completely overgrown again, along with the rest of my back yard. I constantly have to "fight the weed" to keep it from taking over everything. Some time in the past (before we bought the house) somebody planted some borage, and it is particularly invasive. It tries to take over every square inch of soil.
I bought a new pressure canner, and it arrived yesterday. I had one years ago, but sold it at a garage sale, thinking I would never can again. Now I can't wait to use it! I also bought a 10-liter crock and am planning to make sauerkraut. Have you ever tried making any?
Thanks for contacting Carol and welcoming her into the gardening community. I think she really likes us! Thanks also for directing me to Ian. I did not know that he was the webmaster. Since I keep the KGI page open most of the day while I'm at work, I'll try to keep an eye on new members and alert him to those spammers.
Thank you! My garden has grown so much in the last few weeks since those pics were taken. Just trying to find them in my computer is harder than growing everything (takes longer too!)
oh yes,..thanks for asking about Mom. We are trying a new prescription to help with her legs/feet.I hope you and yours are doing well.I hope to harvest my first mellons by the 4th. I hope.First corn next week.have a good one.
wow, Michelle, your garden sounds like its doing quite well! So much already! Still no tomatoes, had to pull one cherry tomato plant due to same nasty stuff that killed all last year - much like Joy's photo below. I just started getting some squash and already the vine borers are in them badly; two succumbed so far. Yikes, the heat and mosquitoes! I wish we'd get some good rain!
Yup, the heat and my health are keeping me busy between those early morning gardening sessions. Thanks for the notes and encouragement.
Thanks for the welcome. My garden is doing all right. This is actually my 2nd years to try my hand at gardening in LA. I am slowly getting it, I think.
Hi, Michelle! Yes, I am trying to get my little homestead up and running. Would love to get to the point where I have surplus to sell. I also have my parkway done w/ many edibles to share w/ whomever passes by. Stop by and see my homestead at www.whisperinghillshomestead.blogspot.com

Donald you lucky to live in an area where you can start a new hive at any time during the year! In New York one could never start a new package in December! =8-o
We'd love to see pix of your current hive. :)
