Too bad about the deer. We never had a problem at our place in Indiana even though we had deer in our yard almost everyday. We even had tracks through our garden, but with no munching. Good luck!
Good morning Ed! Did you get any rain yet? Looks like we'll be getting some here and there all week. That's good, but it will delay me planting the many other veggie plants that need to get into the ground.
You know, I was playing with the camera on my computer and couldn't stop laughing. Then when I saw that picture I totally lost it. So I kept it to use like medicine. Some days you just need a reason to laugh really hard.
Well yes, but if we're talking distraction, what's smart and what's not? If the clover distracted the bees from the other blossoms 3 feet away ... what's the difference?
Hmm ... maybe that's why my pumpkins and watermelons yielded very few fruit ... distracted bees. I just planted a bunch of flowers in teh garden too ... should I plant squashes far away from this area or close to it?
lol, I'm not sure about spirit freedom either...: ) But there is a lot more tolerance and acceptance for just "being" who you are: and still an appreciation for individuality, self reliance, resourcefulness and looking out for your neighbor (at least for the unfortunate soul that breaks down on the side of the highway). Not to mention good restaurants with delicious food and fun atmospheres in the city of Anchorage.
Alaska is obviously beautiful. The people are mostly wonderful, very diverse. Lots of freedom, and lots of gardens! The birch trees are amazing, I miss them the most. But I do relish in the beauty of all these flower blooming trees in PA, just gorgeous!
Yes some bats. I've not heard the latest numbers though. There is bat guano of course and it was mined at one time, but to the detriment of the bats. Holes were drilled in to their roosting areas in the early 1900s and were not resealed until the 80s. The bats have moved back into that cave now, but the numbers that were once there still are not.
Hope you are getting lots of garden work done! We have seeds sprouting all over the place here.
I'm so sorry to hear about your tomatoes! Nothing like watching your hard work just disappear. But you seem to take such things with a good attitude. I don't know if I'd take it as well. It can get pretty expensive feeding the wildlife! If we were near-neighbors, John and I would certainly share our tomatoes with you.
Love your new profile pic! What year was that? This year?
Still no rain for you? Hmmmm! It's easy to pull the hose out for a little backyard garden, but you're growing acres-worth, right? You really need the rain. If I thought I could pull it off, I'd call on my Cherokee heritage and do you a rain dance. But they didn't teach that one in ballet, jazz, or tap! So, sorry. How 'bout I just say a prayer?
Spring is always our rainy season here. This year we've had more than ususal, as Georgia has been under drought conditions for about 7 years now. The water level in our lakes is improving, but they still have a long way to go to get back to normal.
This spring, our rains have been long, lasting a day or more at a time, several times a week. Good soaking rains. Lately, however, they have turned to scattered showers popping up for a few minutes at a time in sudden downpours or short gentle rains.
With no sign of rain, John and I planted and watered 35 tomato plants yesterday. An hour later we had a cloud burst - but not even enough to thoroughly soak the garden bed. As May progresses, the rains will probably decrease, and there will be few if any rains during the summer. Late fall might be our next rainy season. We'll just have to wait and see what mother nature is going to do.
Today, the clouds have been lingering, and even now, as I type, I can hear thunder in the distance, but not a drop has fallen yet. Maybe tonight. Maybe tomorrow. We'll see.
oh, I don' t mind the jokes.. I don't really feel disrespected... I can be very silly and enjoy the fun... hope I'm not disrespecting you though...
