Hi Ed. We both feel super excited about our jobs! There is no plant life in the caves that we've seen or heard about. There was a fairly recent discovery of different microorganisms that live in some of the cave pools. I bet you have a big garden there in NC!
Hello Ed,
Thanks for your comment. The World Peace Prayer Society has facilitated the planting of peace poles in 200,000 gardens around the world. Therefore the link between gardening and peace is well established. Please think about dedicating your garden as a peace garden. It is a great way to unite family, friends and neighbors around your healthful garden and the cause of peace. Details here: http://www.worldpeace.org/peacepoles.html

Hi Ed! The uniform is a Boy Scout uniform,.. yes, I hear the Royal Rangers are VERY similar. This was taken at a pow wow at which I was the craft instructor. Thank you for noticing! Very proud member for 38 years!
Well, we were facing a drought this year. I'm not certain where that stands right now... I heard that farmers will be unable to procure the normal amount of water they use every year this year, and that Schwarzenegger had declared a state of emergency when it comes to water. Looking out at my yard right now, with it being soggy and drizzly, it doesn't LOOK like we will have a drought, but I would have to see the reservoirs to know for sure.
And sure a lot of this is because of poor water management, but it's also because of global warming.
If you would like to learn more go to google and key in biochar and you will be able to see sites on biochar including videos. We are not using ash we are cooking wood stock in a kiln and retort at 500 degrees farenheit.
Thanks for the comments on the raised beds. They are like potato chips. I started out with 2 and now have 9. I have my eye on another part of the yard for the next ones.
Ed: Please also go to George Hoche site of the GKI to see pictures of how we produced our Biochar for our gardens so we can save the depletion of the admendments that we have added and are still doing testing at some sites to show the difference between using the biochar and not. This does not replace other soil minerals which have also been depleted from our soils.
Biochar is a form of carbon that can be used as a soil amendment to replace some of the carbon that has been severally depleted from a garden and farm soils. Biochar has been successfully used as a stable form of carbon for growing food for several hundred years. Research is now being done by individuals such as myself, others with me, including universities throughout the world. More information can be found on The International Biochar Initiative (IBI) and other websites.

Hi Salma
I am lucky in that my allotment is only a short bicycle ride from my house. Some people in larger cities like London have to travel to theirs in a car.

Glenn!British allotment system is quite interesting. It should be initiated here in Pakistan.
Is this alloted land close to your home?
I mean you have to travel to your home kitchen garden to fetch your vegetables ??
I also recommend Seed Savers Exchange. Not only does Heritage Farm offer seeds they've grown, but you can become a member and exchange thousands of seeds with other gardeners. The beauty of seed savers is you can use heirloom seeds that you have g...

Very excited - it's RAINING here. Desperately needed after very long drought and then the bushfires.
