Kitchen Gardeners

I live in hot humid Florida and have mild winters. This was my first serious large vegetable and herb gardening experience. Hours of land clearing, weed, root and grass pulling the old fashion way using a garden fork, hoe and my poor hands, knees and back. I wore out a wheel barrow, broke 2 hoes and had to replace the fork handle!!

I started with the intent of taking before, during and after pictures but lent my camera to my daughter for taking pictures of my grandson ;thereby missed the growing season. My fall garden [mustard, purple top turnips, collards, broccoli, brussels sprouts and butter crunch lettuce] is dong great. 3 nights of frost finished off the tomatoes, peppers and egg plants chocolate basil and marigolds. I sure am going to miss the butterflies and bumble bees that kept me company these past 6 months.

The crimson clover sowed in a new plot as a cover crop is coming up to enrich my sand and hoping to see pretty green the next few months and no weeds when its time to plant again. The strawberries are successfully transplanted and mulched in a new bed; they weren't happy in the planter container this year don't think they got enough sun.

Looking forward to next year and sharing with all my new gardening friends.

Hi Deborah! Thanks for adding me as a friend. I'm really enjoying meeting people on this website. There is all kinds of garden stuff to chat about, and more! I like learning about the different gardening locations and the growing challenges, and the incredible people who are passionate about growing whatever they can in the space they have. I have much to learn myself, and believe this is the right spot to study! I'm looking forward to sharing comments with you and watching your garden grow!

Forum Policy

Hi, I'm starting to put together a few guidlines on using the discussion forum on here.

I would be happy to hear any comments you may have.  This is very much a work in progress so plese feel free to ask me to add anything you think is needed.

I don't want to make our community hide bound by rules and regulations but I think that, as the community has grown, some explanation of what is expected is needed.
