Comment by Marian Worley on November 6, 2009 at 8:14am - That is how I feel, and I bet all of us do. Having something in the garden now helps to prolong the use of our stored products so they last farther in to the spring. I ran out end of March last year, and even though the weather was nice and things were growing, I was not getting any produce from my garden or the local CSA until late April. Hoping to keep it seamless this year, but we will see. I have discovered that mint is the last thing to die here, and the first to pop up in my herb bed, so even in March I can forage for something green and fresh from the garden. It at least FEELS good to put it in food.

During winter we still eat ok as we use alot of pulses but during the cold weather there isnt much around in the gardens or the farmers markets so when the spring and summer veggies and fruit start to show it is wonderful. Thats why I enjoy preserving and drying, when your body craves some summer fruit during the snow storm you can indulge.
