This is so easy and soooo good. I lightly peel the turnips slice them and boil till tender. doesn't take as long as boiling potatos. Then drain melt some butter in and sprinkle generously with lemon pepper.
I can honestly say these purple tops right out of the garden were much better than any I have ever bought in the grocery store. I grew up eating them cooked in the greens but I like them better as its own side dish.

I mix Turnips with potatoes, carrots, onion, and bell pepper, drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle with lemon pepper or Mrs. Dash seasoning, and cook in the oven at 350 until done.

I found a recipe for greens from MSL that I've been using will find and post on blog it's real easy As you can see I like quick and easy. It takes longer to prepare than anything wash rinse rinse again drain dry destem cut or tear the leaves. basically you can use any kinds of greens I've been using mustard and turnips after greens are ready to cook I put a couple TBS olive oil in a WOK and add some chopped onion (I like sweet onions my favorite is Valdalia but out of season and hard to find now) and cook til translucent then add and keep adding the greens as they wilt down stirring with a fork i sprinkle with garlic salt. pepper and Cayenne and then cook until done to taste. Just experiment with it . we use different pepper vinegars which is good at table.

I am such a frustrated turnip lover! I think there is no vegetable more visually appealing and potentially tasty than a turnip, not to mention that fact that even the tops are edible. But I am a frustrated turnip lover because I will buy turnips, cook turnips, and look forward to eating turnips, only to discover I don't like the taste. I've done this countless times in my life. I want to savor them and enjoy them, but I never do. Tamara Stallings (a great KGI member) is helping me correct that problem. She helped me understand that fresh from the ground is when turnips are sweetest. Within hours they can get sharp and bitter. You should check out Tamra's webpage here on KGI, and then look at her website: http://www.eatseasonally.com She wrote recently about turnips, and she's a wealth of information about gardening. I'm going to grow my own turnips from now on and enjoy them. I'll add your recipe to the others I'm collecting. My mouth is watering already!

Hello Sumitra, Thankyou for sharing your pictures. Your students are beautiful. I thought of you the other day as I watched a documentary about Nepal on the television.

Hi Sumitra, It is great to see your photos and bee hives. Like you I long for equality for all people on this planet. If all people could grow their own vegetables it would be a great thing. It is very hard to know that lots of people do not have ...

I think this might need it's own category, don't you? Tomatoes are one of the most popular things to grow and we've been placing them in all kinds of groups, but the fact is we almost all grow them, and they have specific needs.

The cooking shows are entertaining, but that's all. Some of my favorite recipes started with notes handed down from family. They're still as good as ever. James Beard, Joy of cooking, and Professional Chefs Manural are good references. I have over...
