I live in Oregon. When it's not too cold, they seem to be around as long as my feeder has clean syrup. I'll have to admit i was not good about keeping it clean or full. Then I bought an EASY to clean/fill feeder www.hummzinger.biz/excel.htm - The ...

Gillian, I think you've got a great idea there. Until I get a lot of real experience in something, I tend to go by the book. Experience often adds something that isn't in the book, and I love making those discoveries!

I have a volunteer pumpkin that has sprouted out alongside a bed of flowers, and it too started to develop yellow leaves. It is growing right at the edge of the bed and has mostly sand to grow in, so I added a bit of compost and suddenly it took o...

How old are your plants/when did you plant them? I sound like a broken record because I keep repeating this in discussions, but squash take 90-100 days to mature. If you planted early, perhaps older parts of your plant are just showing their age. ...

Nat, any plant in a container, in a garden center, for sale is not natural. If it's been there too long, yes, it's under stress, but take it out of the container, put it in the ground, and it will return to nature, adjust itself, and grow. In spit...

I agree, trust in nature. At the same time, in response to the previous poster mentioning six packs with tomatoes on the plants - that's not natural. That means those plants have been in those six packs way too long. The plants are under stress be...

No, don't do anything! They're fine. Sometimes we need to stop meddling (no offense - that's for all of us who over-nurture our gardens) and let Mother Nature do her thing. I've seen tomato plants still in six-packs in the garden centers with tiny...

Hello. New to veggie gardening. My winter squash plants seem heatthy. They are only 12 to 18 inch bushes and are already producing multiple flower buds. I know squash plants grow out to 6 or more feet so I am concerned that they are trying to prod...

Hi! Thanks for the comment on the Zoo Doo poem. I always thought I was strange to "wax poetic" about thinks like compost...until I found KGI. Now I know a lot of people feel the same way!
I loved your poem! I think there should be a group added for garden poetry.

Hi kls, welcome to KGI. I'm sure you'll find the site interesting, we're a pretty friendly bunch. You'll find all manner of discussions in the forum (follow the link in the top navigation bar) and there is also a notes section where I can put stuff that may be of interest to members. At the moment there are one or two "how to" articles and a whole range of recipes. (follow the notes link)
If there is anything I can do then please, just leave a message on my page.

Hi, I'm starting to put together a few guidlines on using the discussion forum on here.
