This is a picture of Miss Dusty Beaker with her eggs. She finally ended up with five eggs. Although they were not fertilized, she still was a good mama bird.

The weather is crazy!

I have tons of veggies in my garden, unfortunately the weather hasn't been cooperating. It just hasn't been as warm as it usually is up here in Michigan. My tomatoes and peppers aren't very happy, nor am I. I have several different types of tomatoes and peppers and they are growing slowly, if at all. :-(

I have gotten a few tomatoes and some small peppers, but my Pablano peppers are barely growing. On the other hand, my broccoli, cauliflower, and winter squash are doing quite well. I have lots… Continue

The Crazy Gardener!!

I have been spending all the time I can in my garden. I bought tons of veggies this year and, as usual, lots of flowers. I am also creating a new garden bed in an area that was formerly all weeds. It won't be ready to plant until this fall or next spring, but I am already making plans. I hope everyone has a great Fourth of July holiday and don't forget to keep your hands dirty and your mind clean!

Looking for a little nitrogen? Let your dog pee on your plants!

Okay, maybe that's pushing it, but dog (and human) urine has tons of nitrogen in it. Actually, many years ago (and it still might be happening now, but I haven't asked), farmers used to pee on their gardens...well, they collected the urine, watered it down then poured it on their plants.Continue

Finally feeling good again!!

I finally feel better today. My voice is still a bit raspy, but at least it can be heard. Now I can yell at the dogs again! (just kidding, two of my dogs are partially or completely deaf so they don't hear me even if I tried to yell :)

I'm doing some work inside today because tomorrow and for the weekend, I'm outside from dawn to dusk. I even take my lunch outside and eat while sitting on the swing. Ahhhh, I LOVE being outside. I'm going

Getting started

I have spent the last few days at home in bed. But I did plant some sunflower seeds (I took them from my bird's seed -- she didn't eat them, so I planted them). I have several baby sunflowers so now I need to repot them and get them more sun. I have tons of seeds to start and as soon as I can get back to feeling better, I'm gonna go crazy. I have tons to do and am running out of springtime to do them in. :)

Hi Claudia. I had to respond to your comment about senior pets. As it so happens, that's one of the things I do. I cam to it inadvertently. My first husband and I rescued dogs from death row. When I married my second husband, who also had dogs, our pack grew, and we have rescued a couple more. As they have aged and grown ill, I have run a kind of hospice for dogs, loving them through their leaving. Currently I am caring for Popey, my parents' Boston Terrier, aged 12. He isn't ready to check out yet, but suffers from Cushings and lost the use of his legs last year. He requires a lot of care. But I do not mind the work, and he brings me great joy, as do our other 9 dogs. Best of luck to you in this endevour. It requires a large, compassionate heart.

Hi, I'm starting to put together a few guidlines on using the discussion forum on here.

I don't want to make our community hide bound by rules and regulations but I think that, as the community has grown, some explanation of what is expected is needed.
