Thank you for the welcome. You have a wonderful blog, and I admire (and envy) your lifestyle. I passed a link to your blog on to my mom, and she's enjoying your recipes and the creative, resourceful ideas you chronicle. Although not off the grid, she and her husband live a very self-sufficient lifestyle in a rural community of like-minded folks. What they don't grow themselves they obtain from local organic farmers. I love visiting them, and fantasize a similar lifestyle for myself!

Oh, Bud's... that's right... so next time you go in, and if you see a heavy set girl with dark hair named Paula... freak her out and tell her that "Mama Bear sends her love"! That is her nick name for me- Mama Bear... and I call her "Princess"! We had a blast working together. She is a real character! But, the girl has a heart the size of Texas!

Hi,
I just checked your page to see if you may have posted a recipe for that yummy sounding rhubarb chutney... and discovered you live in Dexter! A dear friend of mine lives there!
She is a former employee and we have remained close friends when she moved to Dexter 6-7 years ago. She works at the Shop n Save in the deli... she is the one with "attitude"!! :) She is a real character! Her brother and sister in law live on Little Indian, and they have a lavender plantation started. They are also working on a retail store for the products (in case you are interested).

Oh, you are living my fantasy life on your farm. Years ago when I was in my 60's I tried to get a sustainable community going as I was single and needed others to do this with. All talk but no follow-through. Enjoying my gardens now and involvement with Tilth farmers in the area.
Yoghurt - I make mine in a Euro Cuisine electric yoghurt maker which you may not want to do so any way you can provide 95 degrees for 8 hours should work - I don't have enough experience to advise you on this. Heat 1 quart raw milk to 110 degrees in a double boilerRemove 2 tbsps of the warm milk and add 1 tbsp (commercial with live culture or from previous batch) Stir well and pour into a quart-sized wide-mouth mason jar. Add a further 2 tbsp plus 2 tsp yoghurt to the jar and stir well. Cover tightly and place in warm 95 degree place. You could make more than 1 quart if you work out the logistics! Maxine

I don't eat turnip greens but some people use them in a mixture of other leaves i;e.mustard, fenugeri ,spinach and turnip greens.These leaves are collected when very young, the variety is also different.
