Yes Kathryn, they are stinging nettles and I harvest them (with long sleeves and gloves on !), use them fresh in stock and dry them for tea and later use in soups and stir-fries in the winter. Loaded with minerals and vitamins A and C and chloroph...

This was a wierd year for me. I would have assumed that it was the weather, but our elderly neighbors' garden did terrific. So it's me. I'll try to add a lot of compost this spring to improve the soil fertility. Our onions, garlic, romaine and bus...

My garden this year was a bit of a disappointment, but the summer was cool and rainy, so that may be part of the cause. I also think I need to amend my soil, it's very heavy and hard. More TLC and perhaps next year will be better.

Sadly, I didn't get that done this year. And now we've had a frost, so the leaves are brown and falling.

Yes, but I picked them before then because they had lost their leaves by then. Pickled them this summer to make dolmas and also added them ro cucumber and zucchini pickle crocks to maintain "crunchiness". Also learned grapes develop more sweetness...

Hi Maxine,

Nice to hear from you...Hmmm Walnut sauce. Did I say I had a recipe? I can't find the recipe card right now; but there is a Ligurian recipe that is made by grinding walnuts, olive oil, garlic, parmesan cheese and a little salt, in the food processor. Heat it up a bit - rich and delicious on pasta. Janet

You live in Carnation? Oh man I'm jealous! I love it up that way. We'd have moved up there a few years ago if a) we could have reasonably afforded it, and b) it wouldn't have been such a long commute for the hubby. We still love our little place in Olympia though, it's just not as far out of the way as we'd sometimes like it to be. ;)

Then go back and highlight the link text.

Then hit the hyperlink button...a pictogram of a chain link.
