Thank you for your comments Michelle! I would love to expand my container garden a bit but I promised my husband I wouldn't completely take over the balcony :-). I'm sure I can learn alot from you.

Hi there Jessica. Congratulations on becoming a gardener! Just like the seasons of the year change and rotate, you'll find your attitude about gardening changing and rotating too (I love gardening! I hate gardening! I love gardening! I hate...) Ha...

This is so silly. I just realized we have this KITCHEN Gardeners International group and we have no category with the things we DO with this food, how we cook! So here we are with a Recipe Exchange.

I think this might need it's own category, don't you? Tomatoes are one of the most popular things to grow and we've been placing them in all kinds of groups, but the fact is we almost all grow them, and they have specific needs.

This forum is for those interested in bringing food security to our city limits. Urban farmers, those interested in Community supported agriculture, backyard farmers, Spin Farmers, and those who care where their food source comes from. Welcome!

I bought way too many seeds - leaf lettuces, radishes, carrots, zucchini, spaghetti squash, hubbard squash, watermelon, tomatoes (mixed so I have no idea what I'll end up with!), snow peas, hot peppers, cucumbers, misc. flowers, corn, beans, hum, that's most of them. I have left over seeds but they should sprout next year, too. It seems more I plant, the more I want to plant!

I planted some gourds and think that next year I'd like to do some sponges... we have a very short growing season (maybe 90 days) so I'll have to figure that out - well, I have all winter!

Do you garden in the ground or in containers (or both?) We live in the country but I like container gardening - I just use really big containers!

Welcome! I'm looking forward to reading more about your first garden - I admire your self control when buying seeds. I always buy too many!

Big Garden Ideas Little Garden Space....

This year I decided to venture out and start a garden.

It's been in the back of my mind for awhile but 2009 was the time to just take a leap and go for it. Growing up in the Midwest, every year my brothers and I would work in the yard (usually not our choice) with my parents, planting blubs (flowers), weeding, cutting grass, and raking leaves. We would go over my great-grandmothers house and pick beans, greens, tomatoes, cucumbers, okra (yuck) and other veggies I don't remember to fix fo… Continue

Several people have experienced difficulty putting working links into comments and blogs etc and I know it is clumsy.... so here is how you do it.....

First type the text you want to appear....  ie  IAN'S PAGE

Then go back and highlight the link text.

Then hit the hyperlink button...a pictogram of a chain link.

Forum Policy

Hi, I'm starting to put together a few guidlines on using the discussion forum on here.

I would be happy to hear any comments you may have.  This is very much a work in progress so plese feel free to ask me to add anything you think is needed.

I don't want to make our community hide bound by rules and regulations but I think that, as the community has grown, some explanation of what is expected is needed.
