EATING FRUITS .......

My Aunt Elmina sent this to me in a email so thought it was something everyone would find informative. I remember reading something along this way of healthy eating when studying nutrition,

We all think eating fruits means just buying fruits, cutting it and just popping it into our mouths. It's not as easy as you think. It's important to know how and when to eat.

What is the correct way of eating fruits?

IT MEANS NOT EATING FRUITS AFTER YOUR MEALS! FRUITS SHOULD BE EATEN ON AN EMPTY STOMACH.… Continue

Spring at last

This is crazy. Yesterday I typed an hour here got a message went to read it without saving and lost everything. And guess what? Just did the same ____ thing again. UGG. HERE GOES ONE MORE TIME

One week to go before the Master Gardener exam. Have enjoyed the course immensely learning a lot. The class visited the research education garden yesterday WOW. I have never seen such beautiful healthy HUGE plants in my life. The sweet bell peppers were 8 ft tall!! Last year mine may have gotten 1 ft but… Continue

Deb's Easy Quick Turnip Root Dish

This is so easy and soooo good. I lightly peel the turnips slice them and boil till tender. doesn't take as long as boiling potatos. Then drain melt some butter in and sprinkle generously with lemon pepper.
I can honestly say these purple tops right out of the garden were… Continue

A New View

My garden looks so pitiful after the lush colorful living loveliness of spring then summer. I miss the bumblebees and butterflies. I pulled up the frost killed marigolds, basil, eggplants, squash, beans and tomatoes this morning. Most of the flower seed heads were dried so have several baggies collected of 4 types of marigolds and the chocolate basil. Don't get me wrong the wide rows of various greens and the tiny clover peeking up shows winter is still months away. but bees and butterflies aren… Continue

Great to have another Florida gardener to share ideas with. We have so many opportunities but also some real challenges. I don't even try planting in Florida soil. I like the raised beds so I can work with good soil.

Hi Deborah,
Glad to hear from you! I'm surprised to hear that we are not light years behind you in FL on planting!.. I still have a good foot to two feet of snow in areas of my yard. Patches of the woods are now bare. I did get outside and do some cleaning up in my herb garden.. and would have got more done, but Drat! I have to work for a living! :)
I saw on the Weather Channel the nasty weather that is in your region! Yikes! I'm putting a prayer out there that you will be safe and the rain will fall gently!
Everyone here, have a serious case of cabin fever! I drive down the road, and see people out peeking into their garden plots.. looking oh, so hopeful!
Along the house, my chives are popping up and so are the other herb plants... daffodils too. My ravens are back and starting to nest again too.
We have a huge amount of work to do to clean up all the dead fall from the ice storm. I have many trees to trim, cut and tons of down limbs I'll have to deal with when I can get to them.
We are getting rain later, and I hope it will help melt a lot of this yucky white stuff!
I'll be looking forwards to seeing photos of your efforts!
:)

Deborah, I would like to welcome you to our group. This group is new and small but will grow quickly I think as there are many of us who garden in this area and we all face the same problems with our heat and humidity. I will be happy to offer you any help that I can. Thanks for your membership!, Harry.

İ think Florida is the place to be at the moment with snow storms in America. İts snowing here too bit colder than where you are.

Doesn't sound like the bestest place for gardening! Good luck! Don't we all wish we knew then what we know now? Of course, if we'd known it then, we still wouldn't have paid attention. Since you like to read, do you know about paperbackswap.com ? Awesome site!

Well, the medicine wheel on my land is comprised primarily of stones. There are a few wild plants mixed in as it is built in the woods in an area that has a small natural clearing. But, according to Sun Bear, this is how you can do it;

Starting in the center;
Creator (God) any or all plants
Mother Earth- corn , beans, squash,
Father Sun/Sky- sunflower
Grandmother moon- mugwort

North- sweet grass
East- tobacco
South- sage
West- cedar

These are the basic ones. For a complete list I advise reading "Dancing with the Wheel" by Sun Bear. Or on-line you can find charts of the plants and stones by Googling "dancing with the wheel". It is extensive... and my carpel tunnel is acting up this AM!! Or, I'd type it!
I've got to go play flute later at a flute class, so I guess I'd best quit now while I can still fell my hands!
Hope this helps... and actually, my belief is that a Medicine Wheel should be individual... so what plants resonate with you? You have the tobacco and that could be your center for Creator... then go from there.

Oh! Duh!! Yes, and I think I even replied to it!!! I had way too much on my mind... can you tell?? tee-hee!!
You asked about the Medicine Wheel... and I replied to that... to remind me.... Ha-ha... now can you see a pattern here? I know I'll forget, so I try to remind myself ahead of time!!!
So, what was it you would like to know about the Medicine Wheel?

Welcome Rev. Claudia!
Pennyroyal bears absolutely no resemblance to bindweed. Pennyroyal Bindweed Not sure what cousin you are thinking of.
Maria, I have this in my corral in one part of it, and the lunatic alpaca that is where the bindweed is (I have to keep him separate) won't eat it. I'm pretty sure that yours looks like the same leaves I have on my plant. It's definitely a western...
Maria, kudzu is bindweed on steroids.google it. I dont have a cam. Stay positive.
Maria, dont get discouraged. With a .85 ac ''battlefield'', you CAN defeat this ''foe''. Just dont give up.

Winter squash varieties take, on average, 90 days to mature. Harvest winter squash when the "ground spot" changes from white to a cream or gold color. Check before harvesting to see that all winter squashes and pumpkins to be stored have hard rind...
Well there's a positive way to turn this around Michelle, they can clean it up.... :)
Joy, I would expect a more discerning read from you - did they publish a soil analysis for you to read (no), did they use expremist language(yes), does the writer have an agenda (yes). Is there more to "biosolids" than "sludge" (yes), could go on...
oh and lettuce too!
Chris! You don't need chemicals! I tell you the coffee grounds work WONDERFULLY. Slugs are repelled by the caffeine in the grounds, it's toxic to them. And it's a slow release nitrogen. :) It's working great for me, it saved my basil and bean plants.
chris w commented on Sandra Bauer's blog post 'Basil Eaters'3 hours ago
I agree with Joy, slugs can demolish basil over night (learned the hard way). I generally don't find the need to use chemicals in my yard, but I would make the exception for slugs! Their eggs can lie dormant in the soil for years, and can emerge i...

Don't eat any vegetable for at least a week. (The container should have instructions about this) It's probably too late to do anything, you could try to water the veggies to try and dilute the solution but I don't think that will work well. Good l...
It's Bindweed, sorry to say:
I'd recommend asking people who grow in your area when to water. I water at night - but I live in a high altitude desert region - usually mildew is not an issue. Your area is probably more humid and mildew issues might be more of a problem. I thin...
I personally throw all invasive plants into the trash. For a plant to be invasive in this area it has to be especially tough - I carefully pulled every bit I found for about three years. This probably isn't bindweed because you haven't mentioned t...
