My garden was flooded yesterday. Today I made the mistake of walking in there and ended up to my ankles in mud. (Thank goodness for my Bean's Boots!) With seven more days of rain in the forecast, can I do anything to help my garden weather the storm?

Smile! I love my garden when the little squash plants grow onto big umbrella leaved fruit producing beings! I am always a bit sad when the leaves begin to wither and lose that full of life vibrant feel. Welcome to the passion of gardening!

Hi, Robin, I'm in Yarmouth and I have been battling flea beetles in my first garden too. All the information I have read indicates these guys can't kill plants once established, but I have been trying. I have tried making a repellent spray from w...

Thanks, that's kind of what I was thinking. I pulled the weeds that are on the verge of flowering. Hopefully this action won't be so intrusive as to upset anyone.

I think this might need it's own category, don't you? Tomatoes are one of the most popular things to grow and we've been placing them in all kinds of groups, but the fact is we almost all grow them, and they have specific needs.

Catherine, what a charming post! Thank you for reminding me about the thrill of that "first year" By the way...that thrill never goes away! You are in for a lifelong love of everything green!!

Gardening "Maternal" Instincts Gone Bad

I am officially garden obsessed. My friends can't understand why I've stopped returning calls and am no longer available in the evenings and over the weekend. Would they understand that I can't stay away from my garden, that my dreams are now filled with watering, weeding, and watchful monitoring for pests? Although I planted my garden for economic purposes (I refuse to pay $4 for a tomato!), planting and maintaining my garden has triggered an almost maternal response inside me. My six rows of t… Continue

Hello Sumitra, Thankyou for sharing your pictures. Your students are beautiful. I thought of you the other day as I watched a documentary about Nepal on the television.
