LOL, me thinks perhaps a Xanax or two to sleep at night - I look like absolute hell with dark circles under my eyes - my fibro kicks up and then it is hell. I hardly sleep to begin with so this does not help. But, that is why I am letting someone get the puppies going for me - it would probably kill me. Earlier in the week I had a funny pain in my left arm and thought I was having a heart attack. Mostly just anxiety I assume. With all my animals you have to expect things like this. She is spayed now so that is good. I think she will be just fine. You know having no children makes them my children.
I love them all so much and I always worry when someone is not right. She has recheck tomorrow morning so I will feel better when I know her red blood cell count continues to climb. This could be the reason for her panting and being out of breath cause we need red blood cells to oxygenate our blood.
If the picture comes through, this is a puppy from her last litter. She has lovely puppies.
Hugs,
Kathy of the Enchanted Woods

She just came home from the hospital yesterday. We had her in er on Sat and Sun, Mon she had 4puppies on her own then had to go back to hospital for oxytocin injections, then had 3 more puppies then stopped and needed a c-section and was spayed. She had a blood transfusion and was not making milk. She is better, not 100%. She had 9 puppies total, we lost one - so eight of them are right now being raised by a very dedicated vet tech until their eyes open then it will be home with me, surrogate mom - I was really worried about my Oprah - she is my very own baby from two of my dogs. It will take a while until she is much much better. Very scary......6 girls and 2 boys - 4 black and 4 parti black and white. Very cute litter. Thanks for asking and please say some prayers for all of us. I have been soo stressed out!

I'm glad you found my ideas useful. Now, let's go slay that GMO monster!

Hmm Andrea... well I would start with joining seedsavers.org, and then take a look at the site seedsofdeception. Also, Seeds of Change. There's also a food activist website I know of, La Vida Locavore and they have a lot of links for other food activist sites. I would also give monetary support for Dennis Kucinich because he and Barbara Boxer have been trying for years to do something about GMO plants, they've got legislation that they want to pass that will protect our seed supply. Of course, buy and grow organic, and support your local farmer's market, and if you don't have one, help to start one. Check out the local CSA's. Educate people! How's that for starters?

Gosh, forgot to answer about the Rosemary - I usually buy it once a year but only a single plant. I over-winter in an outbuilding with heat - last years was looking lanky.
I need to really concentrate on my herb garden this year. At least I finally planted, rather nilly-willy, my big box of bloodroot that had been sitting around since the fall, bad bad gardener I am lately!

Gosh Andrea, my woods pretty much still look like winter - my bleeding heart is in bloom, daffodils and other bulbs, cat briar, small lemon balm plants coming up and my elderberries are greening up. I have done little to nothing outside.
I have a lot on my plate right now, xrays on pregnant cocker show 6-7 puppies due on the 28th - keeping a close eye on her, she is a much bigger Cocker than my Doris who is Butterscotch's mom - Chicks are absolutely adorable, I love going in with them and they give you their absolute attention! They are in my small pink cottage and it is toasty warm for them - it is thundering out, I sure hope the lights do not go out- they need to be warm. First chicks I ordered through the mail from www.healthychicksandmore.com did not need to make a 25 chick order and they are all alive!
Was lucky that my editor at Herb Quarterly let me change topics for my next article or I think I would have pulled my hair out - so now we changed to keeping a garden journal/herbarium - much easier and I will be able to write this while waiting for puppies etc.
When you get a chance, get the Summer issue of HQ to read my article on the Victory Garden, it turned out good, I was pleased :)
Pray my dog has an easy birth and I have the energy to keep up!

THANK YOU! Now I know why the red-currant's German name is Johannisbeere. You were saying that red currants ripen before St. John's day. I had no idea what that day was, so I googled it and the German name is Johannistag. Since the red currants ripen around that day, their name is "Johannisbeere". As to the disease of the white pines: do you mean white pine blister rust? I googled that ;o)... Anyway, I found out that there ARE cultivars resistant to WPBR, so you might be interested in growing these.... Also, in 2003 NY made it legal to grow red currants and black currants, so maybe NJ also? Here's the link with the resistant cultivars: http://www.sln.potsdam.ny.us/currants.html (as to this link: I spent a study abroad year in Potsdam, NY, and just LOVED it).

I have indeed dried figs. But I dried them hard, not soft. That was a few years ago when I was still getting used to having figs. I didn't know what to do with them since they were too hard to chew - didn't think of softening them in water back then. They made a great snack for our pig, who absolutely loved them. I'll send you the recipe a little later. I'm running around a bit this morning, jumping on the computer here and there. I will definitely be posting the recipe on the website in the summer, just as fig season arrives. I enjoy cooking with the foods I'm growing, and preserving them as well.
