Comment by Gillian on November 16, 2009 at 4:47pm - Glen, the tumeric plant grows very much like ginger - you harvest the rhizomes. These can be dried and used as tumeric powder, but the grated fresh root has a wonderful rich flavour. The plant itself is very different to the ginger plant - lovely lush huge leaves and a beautiful flower, but only during the wet, and then it dies right down in the dry season. I just leave the rhizomes in the ground and pick them as needed.

I don't eat turnip greens but some people use them in a mixture of other leaves i;e.mustard, fenugeri ,spinach and turnip greens.These leaves are collected when very young, the variety is also different.
