hmm. well I have those too, they aren't anywhere near ripe yet. if they are easily falling off when you pick them then I would guess they are ripe! My Sungolds are actually orange when they are ready.

My cherry tomatoes are coming in big time! But I've got a real problem with them. None of them are fully ripe when I pick them. They're all still that orangy-red color. They taste great, but why aren't they turning red?

Thanks so much Joy and Michelle. Had not heard of Serenade. Checked it out on-line and glad it is considered "safe". With my Western WA sometimes prolonged damp overcast skys I feel prevention is needed.

I've been a bit under the weather today. My physical activities were restricted, so I spent some time researching Tomato Late Blight and added a discussion with the best information I could find. I'm actually learning a lot myself when I do this research. I hope this helps you.

I use Serenade on it, so hopefully I won't experience Late blight. It can affect potatoes too, that's why getting disease resistant varieties is good.

Now that most of us (I hope) have nice size tomato plants would like to discuss disease, especially late blight. What cultural or other factors you may know of to minimize the chance of this. Has happened to me a few times over the years and poof! the plant is dead in just a few days.

The clips keep the plastic taut between the hoops so they don't bucklle. I suppose you could devise something to go all across the top and secure it to the hoops too. I made a mistake when I said I got the clips from Garderners Supply. I got them from Territorial Seed Co. - www.territorialseed .com They come in 1/2 inch diameter too.

Yes Maxine, those look the same as the pipes i have used, except mine are pale blue. The only drawback is they tend to buckle to one side at times.
In future i am going to make some steel mesh hoops out of 6" concrete reinforcing mesh. [Ref Robert Norris] These look a bit too industrial for the home garden, but on my allotment will be ideal.
