Artisticgardens.com has New Zealand Spinach(Tetragone) and the sample packets are only .35 cents. I've ordered from them for a few years, not the spinach though, and have never been disappointed.

Where can I get New Zealand spinach?

Being a serious herbivore, I am desperate for summer greens. I am trying malabar spinach ( which tastes a bit slimey to me) and salad burnett ( tiny but fine) and sorrel. What else is there?

As spring is here in Georgia the heat of the days is coming. Its been in the 70s and low 80s already this spring so I am expecting a hot summer.
I grow many of my own salad greens and what few I have left are starting to bolt to flower. But there are some hot weather alternatives if you know where to look.
India and Afghanistan and Jordan all have wonderful greens that eat like salads and spinach.
Malabar Spinach is a very heat tolerant plant and does well in Georgias hot summers. Giving you nice salad greens thru the summer time. It grows like a vine unlike traditional spinach and you pick the leaves. Taste mildly like swiss chard.

Both sorrell and purslane are small leaved plants that add alot of flavor to your salad. Some add alot of color as well as some of the plants have red veins and bright green leaves. These should be planted well after the last frost as they like heat or indoors as well.

Tetragonia (New Zealand Spinach) is really like the Malabar Spinach in that it is not a true spinach. But it has a great spinach like taste and tolerates extreme heat.
Fireball lettuce is a heading lettuce that tolerates heat and doesnt go bitter like some lettuces.

maybe a few of these will grow in your areas as well and provide you with salad greens thru the summer in the South.
