Go check it out. Tell them you are a Kitchen Gardener if you do. Al so here is the shop online: Store.evoorganic.com a phone # is 296 2662
This is a free plug for them. They were real nice and gave me a slow tour. Jerry Nichols

Hey John Walker, you are doing soil blocks? Did you get or make soil blockers? I've been reading about that and it looks cool.

Does anyone have any experience with the new LED grow lights with 100- 200 red and blue leds for approx $30 that they sell on Ebay?

Working on my irrigation. This also shows the cover up and down. Big office spring clips work great to hold the cloth in place. Oh, and the water is coming from the top pipe. I drilled four or 5 1/16 holes untill I got the water coming out like I wanted, 8" centers are what I settled on. Inexpensive electric PVC conduit with some plumbing fittings(plastic glue up type) and some old lengths of garden hose, then all the lines go to a multiple outlet hose header to allow ajustment of the water. Works great-cheap-uses only low pressure water in big drops with little spray. I will set them on one or more timers when I can afford them.

I have my raised frames all filled with compost now. I used bagged compost-40# bags and used 20 per frame (20x40=800#). I drug them to the frames using a handled cultivator. I find t it less labor than bulk. I then just plant whatever in the compost and use a fish fertilizer as directed. Great stuff and it really has that "beach" smell. My wife planted beds of spinach, collards, mustard, 2 lettuces, and they are of first thinning size. I now have a lot of clumps of these greens and if anyone wants some they are welcome to some. They are all about 2 weeks old and with a spacing of 6"+ we need very few. Things have really germinated on us well this year and it seems a shame to just thin it all.

Raised beds march 7
I have been making some new 4 x 12' x 6" deep raised beds frames. I used "Trex" decking before but it was expensive. I am now using oak planking-1x6x16' with SS screws(I have a lot of xtra screws). The planks were a lot more reasonable and should last a good ten-15 years and are non toxic. $10 a plank at southern states x 2, is $20 a frame. After filling with compost I give about 4 sg ft/cabbage/broc,etc. or 16 plants per frame. Or fill them full of lettuce, etc. I will follow with cost and amounts of compost that I use to fill them.

Soil Blocks 5 March
Broccoli is up.
Thinking I may need to water them more than I am. Though I mist water them twice daily.
Unplanted soil blocks are now quite dry and crumbly.
Miniblocks arrived Tuesday so I will try those for peppers, toms and aubergines.

Soil Blocks.
Still going well, planted bunching onions 4per block this weekend, Couldn't do the 10 Elliot Coleman recommended.
Figured out the christmas tree lights to give a constant 68ºC.
Looking forward to the first sproutings.
The blocks not planted still seem moist. I'm misting the planted ones daily just to be on the safe side.

Soil blocks Day2
They are still moist and haven't fallen apart despite misting 2x day
The ones I haven't planted or misted are still moist....
I found a way to heat a germination tray. An old set of christmas lights under a piece of wire shelving (air circulation) with the lids of large plastic containers to hold blocks. The surface of the plastic gets to 70ºC after a few hours.
Any safety concerns please let me know.
I'll keep you all posted.

I don't want to make our community hide bound by rules and regulations but I think that, as the community has grown, some explanation of what is expected is needed.
