Hi,
I'm Australian. I saw the show but I wasn't a fan. I guess it was good to get the idea out there to the general public but I felt they kind of nicked the 'guerrilla gardening idea and tried to turn it into some quick ratings. Are you based in Sydney? I just returned from a trip there and I saw thousands of potential garden sites.

Are any of you from Australia? Did you see the Guerrilla Gardeners program on Channel 10? It was a lot of fun but it isn't running any more. They didn't let it run through all the episodes. It actually has a Wikipedia entry! I was reminded of the program a few days ago because I was down in the city and noticed the garden they put in at Wolloomooloo is still there. Some of their gardens were dismantled but some were left alone. Being done for tv of course they were aiming for controversy so they would get viewers so it was all a bit of hype, but the idea was good for raising the idea with the general population.

I think my forest garden is an example of guerrilla gardening... The results are beautiful with minimum ecological Impact . Biodiversity is growing. Nature is exited ...Flowers and vegetables are happy and are close to the wild vegetation

At the moment my guerrilla gardening effort is quite small but it is still my little bit. I walk my dog every day past old railway tracks that are no longer used. The area is dominated by long grass. I don't actively plant there as it is in a rural area surrounded by forest that is already very beautiful and green. Instead of planting I gather seed from local native rainforest species (and the occasional avocado seed) and throw them into the area as I walk by. I am still waiting to see if anything manages to grow through the long grass that is currently there.
I think Guerrilla Gardening is a fantastic idea and I would like to start doing more.

WOW what an amazing concept, so simple, yet it can make such an impact both in your own and others lives. I love this idea and hope to find some great ideas from this group! ~ Eva

@ JC

Thanks for posting that ^^ made me smile. I'm growing poppies and i'm planning to plant them out sometime when they've grown a bit. I'm doing some litter picking too, then recycling the cans XD haha.

You will be amazed how many little grubby patches of unloved public space there are. Neglected flower beds, concrete planters sprouting litter and untamed plants, bare plots of mud. Chose one close to home, perhaps you pass it on the way to the shops or work, and appoint yourself it's parent. You can choose to plant things there and make the space beautiful.

The link below shows Richard Reynolds author of 'On Guerilla Gardening' making 'seed bombs' to scatter in areas that are more difficult to reach. These 'bombs' contain seeds and compost and provide the seeds with a good start - hopefully they will sprout and set down roots, then grow into flowers and make the area more attractive.

I have tried this method, but it is too early to tell if the seeds have sprouted...

Thanks, Kate, for posting what you've saved! How did the seed saving for everyone else go this year? I saved seeds from several herbs that aren't ---I don't think--- heirloom varieties (fennel, dill, basil, flat-leaf parsley, cilantro) and some z...

Hello Sumitra, Thankyou for sharing your pictures. Your students are beautiful. I thought of you the other day as I watched a documentary about Nepal on the television.

Hi Sumitra, It is great to see your photos and bee hives. Like you I long for equality for all people on this planet. If all people could grow their own vegetables it would be a great thing. It is very hard to know that lots of people do not have ...

I think this might need it's own category, don't you? Tomatoes are one of the most popular things to grow and we've been placing them in all kinds of groups, but the fact is we almost all grow them, and they have specific needs.

The cooking shows are entertaining, but that's all. Some of my favorite recipes started with notes handed down from family. They're still as good as ever. James Beard, Joy of cooking, and Professional Chefs Manural are good references. I have over...
