Thanks, Tom. It was a neat fantastic experience. A lot to see and some great bands. The crowd was tremendous and the place was packed.

All,
Farm Aid came to SE Mass last week (Sept 20th) in Mansfield (at former Great Woods, former Tweeter Center current Comcast Center). Check out Barry's Blog at http://frostbottomdays.blogspot.com/ to learn more.

Last winter, starting in February, I grew some spinach, lettuce, and beets in a cold frame. The lettuce and beets were slow to start. But the spinach took off quickly and we were eating salads by late March.

Also, I've used winter rye as a ground cover for the last 3 years. It seems to do ok. Is there anything better (for these parts)?

I'm back. I don't know quite what happened, but I had to rejoin the group.

Hi All -

I didn't have any problem with the page once I was able to actually get on to it.

Not looking forward to winter!

What does everyone do, if anything, for winter ground cover? Winter rye?

How about winter plantings in a cold frame?

All,
Some have mentioned some troubles with the KGI web site and I have noticed some oddities too. We had 2 new members sign up (Karen and Fred) but they seem to have vanished.

Tom-

I was going to suggest a group name change. Nice job!

We've had tomatoes (Beefsteak, Jet Star, Roma, Grape, Sweet 100 & Giant Red Cherry) coming out of our ears. Mrs has been canning sauce and diced. We also put up four pints of salsa. We've also frozen about 20 pints of sauce.

She also canned quite a few bread & butter pickles and dill slices. With the cukes that got a little big she made and canned a fantastic sweet relish.

Leslie-

Nice job at the fair!

Leslie,
I just changed the group name to Cape Cod and Islands - trying to be inclusive here.

Leslie, Yes welcome. I see you have a blog - haven't read it yet but will take a look at it soon. Note also blog of other member Barry. See: http://frostbottomdays.blogspot.com/
about gardening and other things.

Was pleased to find my wife had picked another dozen tomatoes yesterday. Only our Roma have done anything.

And, yes Barry, we have had enough rain for a while. But better too much than too little.
