Kitchen Gardeners

November 2008 marks KGI's 5th anniversary as a registered nonprofit group. During that time, we've gone from 1 gardener in one country to 10,000 gardeners in 100 countries.

Please use the comments form to wish us a happy birthday, share something you've learned or a connection you've made through us, and your hopes for our network for the future.

Over to you!

Happy Birthday KGI. I love the newsletter and chats about gardening on the forum.
I would like all veggie gardening bloggers to promote KGI on their sites and would love to see even more new members from all countries signing up.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY KGI and CONGRATULATIONS ROGER!

There are plenty of gardening forums on the web, but what sets KGI apart is its wholehearted support of growing whatever you can wherever you can (and making use of it), encouraging all sorts of creative edible gardens. I'm particularly fond of the international angle and would like to see more kitchen gardens from other countries (KGI is what inspired me to photograph kitchen gardens on a trip to Ukraine - check out the album if you want). I've experienced music as a great way of communicating with people from a different culture without language, and I think gardens do too. Here's to the next five years!

Happy Birthday KGI! When I found this web community (in October), I had no idea I'd enjoy it this much. Different people with different lives living in different locations around the world, all with the one common interest - gardening.

You know the old story... give a man a fish and he eats for a day; teach a man to fish and he eats for a lifetime... That's us! Feeding the world by sharing and teaching what we know on this website! And we couldn't have done it if one man hadn't recieved the vision for it and acted upon it. Thank you Roger.

If I may take John Walker's lead... L‡ breithe mhaith agat!

I didn't realize I would enjoy it so much!

Thanks, Kate, for posting what you've saved! How did the seed saving for everyone else go this year? I saved seeds from several herbs that aren't ---I don't think--- heirloom varieties (fennel, dill, basil, flat-leaf parsley, cilantro) and some z...

Hello Sumitra, Thankyou for sharing your pictures. Your students are beautiful. I thought of you the other day as I watched a documentary about Nepal on the television.

Hi Sumitra, It is great to see your photos and bee hives. Like you I long for equality for all people on this planet. If all people could grow their own vegetables it would be a great thing. It is very hard to know that lots of people do not have ...

My father-in-law Fred Pond died ten years ago. He loved his garden and I still miss him a lot especially at this time of year when the seed catalogues start arriving. The Pond family lived on a seven acre homestead of sorts in Westford Massachuset...

I think this might need it's own category, don't you? Tomatoes are one of the most popular things to grow and we've been placing them in all kinds of groups, but the fact is we almost all grow them, and they have specific needs.

The cooking shows are entertaining, but that's all. Some of my favorite recipes started with notes handed down from family. They're still as good as ever. James Beard, Joy of cooking, and Professional Chefs Manural are good references. I have over...

Then go back and highlight the link text.

Then hit the hyperlink button...a pictogram of a chain link.

Forum Policy

Hi, I'm starting to put together a few guidlines on using the discussion forum on here.

I would be happy to hear any comments you may have.  This is very much a work in progress so plese feel free to ask me to add anything you think is needed.

I don't want to make our community hide bound by rules and regulations but I think that, as the community has grown, some explanation of what is expected is needed.
