What will you be doing differently for this year's garden?

I am pledging to pay more attention to a regular fertilizing schedule, and to try and hold my attention through August. My enthusiasm usually wains in the late summer. But I think if I deadhead, fertilize and water in a more disciplined manner, I will be able to keep at it!

I neglected my garden last year due to work. it suffered pretty bad, my tomatoes didn't even come up and I was in no mood to replant them. Most of the neglect was due to me no watering it properly, espicually last year with the drought we had. Also I let the weeds in the garden get out of hand last year. This year I installed an irrigation system for all three gardens so I dopnt have to drag around a sprinkler and I go out with my coffee every morning and either pull weeds or pick up the hoe. Another thing I am doing differently this year is successive crops. Last year I was content with one crop and by the end of the summer I was missing summer squash, zucchini, tomatoes, and a few others. This year I planted in two week intervals and am getting ready to replant an entire new row of zucchini and squash already. I am also going to try and get a second crop of corn in this year as well. Oh and last year my pumpkin plant didn't make it to September and it only produced one pumpkin, so this year I have 16 pumpkin vines and they are all irrigated. I am hoping to get enough pumpkins to give away to my clients for Halloween and also am trying to grow a couple 200lb ers as well.................................Chris

We expanded our garden this year, but the major thing we will be doing differently this year is actually paying attention to our garden and not letting our harvest go bad before we get to do anything with our veggies. (In our defense, our son was born last May and obviously he took top priority!) We also added melons, potatoes, and lima beans to our garden this year. I can't wait to serve up fresh peas to the lil guy pretty soon! We also have a bare spot where a big burning bush was removed, and i'm thinking about putting in a little bean and tomato garden for the groundhog who lives back there.
