Public officials, celebrities, and other notable people who "Eat the View"

KGI's regulars know that we're asking the next President of the US to "eat the view" by returning part of the White House lawn to its original edible splendor (America's "first house" has had edibles and even sheep on its grounds in the past).

This article here in the Times Union (NY) shows how the New York Governor's mansion is showing the way. Maine's first family, the Baldacci's, also eat from a backyard garden and greenhouse that was installed at the Blaine House, the official residence of the Governor.

I'd be interested to know about other well-known folks - politicians, celebrities, etc - who eat from gardens, be they privately financed or public.

Any other examples that you can think of?

Hi,

I'm a private chef in the Philadelphia Area looking to make a change and work with someone who's interrested in eating locally produced foods. Any opportunties that you know of? Thanks.

Hello There Roger-

Just joined today and wrote you privately about a different topic.

Perhaps the most notable famous person in this category would be HRH Prince Charles.
The popular "Dutchy Originals" food line even includes a new organic beer.

He insists on organic methods and is a supporter of preserving heirloom varieties.

His book, written with Stephanie Donaldson, "Elements of Organic Gardening," was published last year.

In it he writes:
"At Highgrove I have done my utmost to create a kind of archive of rare and endangered fruit, vegetables, trees, and plants – a repository that, I hope, will help in a small way to preserve the essential biodiversity on which, ultimately, our survival depends,"

I have a great picture book of Highgrove. Other parts of the family's holdings preserve varieties of cattle and other things.

Hello Sumitra, Thankyou for sharing your pictures. Your students are beautiful. I thought of you the other day as I watched a documentary about Nepal on the television.

Hi Sumitra, It is great to see your photos and bee hives. Like you I long for equality for all people on this planet. If all people could grow their own vegetables it would be a great thing. It is very hard to know that lots of people do not have ...

My father-in-law Fred Pond died ten years ago. He loved his garden and I still miss him a lot especially at this time of year when the seed catalogues start arriving. The Pond family lived on a seven acre homestead of sorts in Westford Massachuset...

I think this might need it's own category, don't you? Tomatoes are one of the most popular things to grow and we've been placing them in all kinds of groups, but the fact is we almost all grow them, and they have specific needs.

The cooking shows are entertaining, but that's all. Some of my favorite recipes started with notes handed down from family. They're still as good as ever. James Beard, Joy of cooking, and Professional Chefs Manural are good references. I have over...

Hi, I'm starting to put together a few guidlines on using the discussion forum on here.

I would be happy to hear any comments you may have.  This is very much a work in progress so plese feel free to ask me to add anything you think is needed.

I don't want to make our community hide bound by rules and regulations but I think that, as the community has grown, some explanation of what is expected is needed.
